Soren Kierkegaard expressed it best when he said, "Purity of heart is to will one thing." As we de-clutter our homes it is also important to de-clutter our heart of impure motives and divided desires.
For he who wavers is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed with the wind. Let not that man think that he will receive anything from the Lord. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:6 - 8
Simplicity means we want one thing, and we want that one thing for one reason. If I have one consuming passion it is to want God for God. Not for what He can give me. Not for what He can do for me. Not for how being with Him makes me feel. I simply want to want God, for God.
I don't. But I want to. And that means I have begun. Thank God this is all about the journey and not the destination.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8 MEV
Mary, sister of Lazarus and Martha, did want one thing - Jesus. I doubt she had much to say. It seems she just sat at his feet, silent and still. Content to be in His Presence, where she listened, and learned, and loved.
