Scriptures ~ Introduction

The Scriptures are the sixth candle on the Menorah lighting our way in the Holy Place. They are one of God's greatest gifts to all humanity. For Contemplatives the Scriptures are essential to all of life.

Scriptures.

Absolute Truth: In a world governed by the uncertainty and confusion of moral relativism the Bible provides a foundation of moral and ethical absolutes upon which to build our lives.

Sure Direction: The eternal truths of God's Holy Word are a sure compass. God will never speak to us by His Spirit in a way that contradicts His Holy Word.

The Voice of God: In the Scriptures we hear the clear voice of God. In the secret place we fill our heart and mind with God's word; we will find vast resources of strength, wisdom and fortitude for all of life. As the Logos, it is His word to all. When the Holy Spirit alights on a passage of Scripture and it comes alive in our spirit, it becomes the Rhema, God's personal word to us.

Spiritual Nourishment: Spending concerted time in the Word of God each day brings strength and nourishment to our inner man. These are the words of eternal life, and food for our soul. They provide me with strength for my day.

In the Scriptures I walk with God in the wonder of the Word.

Psalm 19:7 - 11

Scriptures.
The law of the LORD is perfect.

The law of the LORD is perfect,
converting the soul;
the testimony of the LORD is sure,
making wise the simple;
the statutes of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the LORD is clean,
enduring forever;
the judgments of the LORD are true
and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
yes, than much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is Your servant warned,
and by keeping them comes great reward.
