Contemplative Prayer is Biblical


There is no mention of the word Contemplation in the Scriptures but the Word of God has many examples of many men and women who entering into silence, solitude, stillness and simplicity so that they could be closer to God, and there are many verses instructing and inspiring us to do so.

Be still and know that I am God.

Examine the lives of the prophets. They spent much time apart, alone in the desert, the wilderness, separate from people and alone with God.

Elijah fled from society and dwelt by the Book Cherith.

John the Baptist lived in the wilderness.

Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness of temptation.

They could not have been who they were in public if they had not spent significant time in private, away from everything and everybody.
